Sarah Maxted is an experienced soprano soloist and ensemble singer. Originally from Berkshire, England, she trained in Vocal Studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. After graduating in 2014, Sarah enjoyed a busy portfolio as a freelance singer in churches and chamber choirs in London, before moving to Copenhagen in 2019. She is currently employed as soprano in the vocal quartet of Østervangkirken, Glostrup, where she sings for regular church services, baptisms, weddings and funerals.
Sarah received her choral training through four years as a Choral Scholar with the BBC National Chorus of Wales, a year-long Choral Scholarship at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, and several years as an active member of the National Youth Chamber Choir of Great Britain. Professionally, she has performed and toured regularly with St Martin’s Voices, The Carice Singers, Mogens Dahl Kammerkor, and has sung for projects with other ensembles including Ars Nova Copenhagen, The Willow Consort, Gentofte Kirkekor, Holmens Kantori and Vor Frelsers Vokalensemble. She was also a core member of The Portrait Choir, the first choir in residence at any UK museum or gallery, during its three-year residency at the National Portrait Gallery, London, and numerous festival appearances.
Sarah’s operatic and stage experience includes The Marriage of Figaro (Susanna) for Opera Cocktail; Orpheus in the Underworld (Venus) for Opera’r Ddraig; The Magic Flute (Second Lady) for Secret Opera; Acis and Galatea (Chorus) for Mid-Wales Opera; Dean Burry’s The Brothers Grimm (Witch/Granny) in its European premiere at the RWCMD; Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Chorus) with the Mariinksy Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; and Tosca (Chorus) with Bryn Terfel and Vittorio Grigolo at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. Other notable engagements include Bach Mass in B minor with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the London premiere of Ryan Wigglesworth’s Echo and Narcissus at Wigmore Hall. Sarah’s discography includes the role of Helena in the premiere recording of Joe St Johanser’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Isabeau in Sullivan’s The Beauty Stone (Chandos) with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and Eric Whitacre’s Grammy Award-winning Light and Gold (Decca).
